What is a weld list?
Summary
A weld list records every weld of a pipeline with its number, type, size and status. It is the basis for weld inspection and for the weld dossier.
Contents of a weld list
- the weld number, as shown on the isometric drawing or spool drawing;
- the type: butt weld (BW), socket weld (SW) or branch weld (BR);
- shop weld or field weld (FW);
- the nominal size and wall thickness, and the material;
- the welder, the welding procedure (WPS) and the date;
- the inspection, for example visual or radiographic, and the result.
Weld numbering
Each weld gets a number on the drawing, and the same number appears in the weld list. A repaired weld keeps its number with an addition, so that the history stays traceable.
The weld dossier
When the installation is delivered, a weld dossier is part of the technical dossier. It contains the weld list, the qualifications of the welders, the welding procedures, the inspection reports and the material certificates.
Weld list and estimate
The weld list also shows the amount of welding work. Added up per nominal size, it gives the inch-dia of a line or project, which is used to estimate hours.
In FlowCAD3D
Welds are registered in the model and listed in a weld list. Site progress per spool, weld and line, from planned to tested or approved, records photos and history, with export to Excel, including the weld dossier.
